This Day in History: A Bizarre Experiment at Davidson College

[UPDATED 1/13/11: Gizmodo’s take on this story.]

This day in history, courtesy of the Davidson College Archives, we have the story of one of the first X-rays ever in the world, of “a cadaver finger… stuck with two pins and wearing a ring…; a rubber-covered magnifying glass; a pill box containing two 22 cartridges, one pin, two rings, and six Strychnine pills (commonly used by students at that time to stay awake during finals); and an egg that been emptied and had a button placed inside.” To read more, click the X-ray image below. And be sure to explore the rest of the archives pages, which are perpetually in an amazing state of evolution! [Props to colleague Hope Childress for the heads-up. Woot!]
